City of Fennimore requests approval for wastewater treatment plant upgrades

MADISON, Wis. – February 18, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — The city of Fennimore has requested approval from the Department of Natural Resources to upgrade its wastewater treatment plant.

Most of the existing treatment plant was constructed in 1979 and although the plant has sufficient capacity, much of the equipment is in need of replacement or rehabilitation. Improvements proposed for phase one, the first of three phases, would include:

� Replacement of influent pumps;
� Construction of a new headworks building with screening and grit removal equipment;
� Construction of a new activated sludge treatment system;
� Construction of a new receiving station for hauled wastes;
� Conversion of the anaerobic digester to an aerobic digester;
� Modifications to the control building including laboratory, office and bathroom improvements; and
� Replacement of obsolete electrical controls.

Work on the initial phase would begin later this year and would serve as a foundation for the later phases designed to bring the facility into compliance with phosphorus discharge limits set to take effect Aug. 31, 2022.

The total capital cost of the Phase 1 improvements is estimated to be approximately $9.5 million. The city anticipates financing the project using the Clean Water Fund loan program, the USDA Rural Development grant and loan program and other sources.
