Learn to Hunt Deer program offered at Sandhill Wildlife Area

BABCOCK, Wis. – June 17, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Youths ages 12 through 15 with or without hunting experience, and adults, ages 16 and older who have never hunted deer before can sign up for a Learn to Hunt Deer program this fall at the Sandhill Wildlife Area.

Sandhill’s Learn to Hunt Deer will be held Oct. 31, 2015 and offers a unique learning experience for youth hunters or new adult hunters. This is the 24th annual learn to hunt program at Sandhill. The applications are available on the DNR website, and are due no later than June 30, 2015.

Successful applicants are randomly drawn from a pool of applications. Successful applicants must complete a hunter safety course by the time of the hunt, and each hunter must have a chaperone, and complete a one-day class in August at Sandhill prior to the hunt. There is a $40 fee, which is due upon acceptance to the hunt. This fee can be waived due to financial hardship.

Requirements:

    • Completion of application
  • Completion of hunter safety
  • Completion of August workshop
  • Experienced chaperone to attend both the workshop and the hunt

 

  • Valid hunting license prior to the hunt

Sandhill Wildlife Area is a 9,000 acre property, owned and managed by the Wisconsin, and used by the public primarily for wildlife viewing. The property is unique, in that it is entirely enclosed by a 9 foot tall, deer-proof fence which creates an excellent environment for research and education.
