DeCleene Helped Develop Ashwaubenon

Ashwaubenon, WILate village president Nubs DeCleene was a force in the successful development of Ashwaubenon’s commercial district.

Larry Nifong says DeCleene made it easy to do business in Ashwaubenon. The two worked together on projects including the opening of a Barnes & Noble book store and adjoining Dick’s Sporting Goods on Oneida Street, and other retail stores.

“He was a sharp business person and always was trying to entertain other avenues that would make it a win-win,” said the owner of Nifong Realty.

DeCleene and his predecessor, Ted Pamperin, made it their goal to develop Ashwaubenon as a premier destination in Northeast Wisconsin.

Nifong credits their success to keeping not only the village’s interests as a top priority but the businesses’ interests, as well.

“I don’t think he ever put himself first,” Nifong said. “It was always the community and the surroundings that meant the most to him.”

With the successful development of the area surrounding Bay Park Square Mall, it was evidence DeCleene did put the Village of Ashwaubenon first.

“He loved the community and the people in it. Would always give you the feeling he’d do anything for you, and it was a sincere feeling,” Nifong remembered.
