Governor Doyle Announces Funding for Main Street Reconstruction in Grant County

MADISON – March 13, 2008 – Governor Jim Doyle announced today that the City of Platteville, Grant County, will receive a $422,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant – Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program of the Department of Commerce (Commerce) to fund its downtown improvement project.

“These improvements will help the great city of Platteville attract a larger number of residents and tourists,” Governor Doyle said. “I’m pleased we are able to support projects like this that will improve overall community development.”

The City of Platteville is undertaking a major downtown improvement project to preserve and maintain the city’s historic character. Plans include resurfacing Main Street with a new concrete street surface, replacing sanitary sewer clay pipes and fire hydrants, and installing light fixtures and speakers along Main Street. Total project cost is $1,952,900.

CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
