Public to review remaining issues for Willow Flowage Scenic Waters master plan
RHINELANDER, Wis. – February 1, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — The public will have an opportunity at an upcoming public open house to comment on four remaining issues regarding management of the Willow Flowage Scenic Waters Area that have emerged during previous phases of updating the master plan for the property.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has sought public and partner input over the past year to develop a revised Willow Flowage Scenic Waters Area Master Plan. State rules require that all master plans approved since 1996 be reviewed every 15 years.
“Previous public feedback helped guide management proposals that are incorporated in a draft revised master plan,” said Tom Shockley, Willow Flowage property manager. “To date more than a hundred citizens and two dozen partner organizations participated and contributed thoughtful viewpoints and suggestions.”
Through this public input, four additional issues emerged that the department is now seeking additional comment on, including:
ProjectBoundary modifications that would identify areas to allow growth in thelocal community.
Additionaloptions for open dates and motorized use of Iron Gate Road.
Length ofstay options on the proposed campsites on the Lower Tomahawk River.
Potentialfor a new deep water boat landing on the west side of the flowage.
The public review and comment period on these issues is open Jan. 29 through Feb. 22, 2016. A public informational open house will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Feb. 10, 2016, at the Nokomis Town Hall, 2541 Lake Nokomis Road, Tomahawk, Wisconsin.
Based on public input to these four remaining issues, the department will make final revisions to the draft master plan before submitting the plan to the state Natural Resources Board for final approval.
