Governor Doyle Announces Funding for Business Development Center in Crawford County

MADISON, WI – September 30, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Governor Jim Doyle today announced a $268,000 grant for Crawford County to help construct a business development center.

“Strengthening Wisconsin’s economy and giving our businesses a competitive advantage has always been one of my top priorities,” Governor Doyle said. “I am pleased to help Crawford County undertake this important project to improve its business development center.”

Crawford County will construct a 6,000-sq.-ft. business development center, incorporating green-building practices, renewable energy, and the use of reclaimed material at the Prairie du Chien Opportunity Center complex. The center will provide processing, packaging, and storage for up to 25 food entrepreneurs, linking the entrepreneurs and their products to local markets. Total project cost is $878,800.

The funding comes from the Community Development Block Grant-Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program at the Wisconsin Department of Commerce. CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
