MADISON, WI – June 30, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Governor Jim Doyle announced today that the City of Prairie du Chien, Crawford County, will receive a $150,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant – Public Facilities (CDBG-PF) program of the Department of Commerce (Commerce) to fund a redevelopment project.

“It is essential for Wisconsin communities to have quality, energy-efficient homes,” said Governor Doyle. “This redevelopment project makes sense economically, and will contribute to the overall health and well being of the community.”

The grant will be used toward the demolition/ deconstruction of the former Prairie Maison Nursing Home site which was declared blighted on December 1, 2009. The 4.71-acre site will be redeveloped into a ten-lot green subdivision that will focus on affordability, energy-efficiency, green building, and neighborhood design. Total project cost is $650,000. The Redevelopment Authority will act as the developer with the goal to sell all the lots by January 1, 2015.

CDBG-PF grants play an important role in helping communities finance a wide range of projects designed to enhance the economic vitality of the community through the provision of community infrastructure, the expansion of tax base, job creation, and increased private investment in downtowns.
