Rep. Craig Co-Authors Personal Property Tax Repeal
Representative David Craig (R-Town of Vernon) co-authored legislation regarding elimination of the personal property tax. The personal property tax is a tax on certain personal property owned by businesses. Over the years the legislature has exempted: individuals, farmers, computing equipment, and certain manufacturing equipment from the tax because of its onerous nature. The cost of complying with this tax to businesses can exceed the revenues it brings in. The reporting measures required by this tax are a tedious hindrance to business that they must comply with year after year

April 26, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- For too long, middle-class taxpayers have been stuck with the costs of paying for more and more government. In 2000, the average property tax on a median value home in Wisconsin was $2,110. By 2006 it had risen to $2,729. Today it’s $2,963. Without the property tax reforms in our budget, these middle-class tax bills would rise to $3,425 by 2013.
